  • Tight curves experience extreme forces, leading to side wear and rolling contact fatigue.

  • Steep gradients require intense traction and braking, which accelerates wear.

  • Tunnels trap moisture, accelerating corrosion.

  • Level crossings expose rails to road salt and water runoff, leading to severe rail foot degradation.

3️⃣ Train Operations

  • Freight trains, with their heavier loads, exert more stress on the track.

  • Frequent stopping on curves alters rail-wheel interactions, worsening wear patterns.

  • Trackside lubricators apply lubricant to reduce wear on tight curves.

  • This helps control friction and rolling contact fatigue, extending rail life.

  • Grinding trains restore worn rails to their optimal shape.

  • Milling goes deeper, removing surface defects before they spread.
